Dissappointment! EtherPad Acquired, Google Wave a Mess

Just when I've come to love the simple, virtual collaboration tool of EtherPad, Google buys them out and shuts them down. Nice. My initial efforts to comprehend Google Wave have been a disaster. Anyone got any suggestions for an EtherPad substitute? (free, real-time, simple, easily accessed by many users). Lots of unhappy (former) EtherPad users. http://tiny.cc/FCk5j

There could be an alternative. I have looked for only a moment, but looks very similar in functionality to EtherPad.

While I too was initially disappointed, the attraction of Etherpad for me was its similaraity to Google Wave. I hope that Wave gets the polish that EtherPad has, but that won't be for a while.

I do think though that EtherPad's acquisition will force Google to open Wave up to people outside of Google's service window earlier than they want to. And of course, you will be able to run a Google Wave "server" at some point, so there too will be a disconnect to the Google engine.

Its just the course of modern web services; we adapt just as they have.
